Training for Accepted Volunteers For those volunteers who have applied and have been accepted to serve as a volunteer during the week of Camp Encourage, please remember that a mandatory training will take place the evening of July 8th. You will be contacted directly with specifics regarding the time and location.

An
especially rewarding experience will be sharing your time with the
special campers during the week of Camp Encourage. Positions that will be available are as
follows:
Counselor positions are typically the
most rewarding camp experiences for staff members. Each counselor will
be assigned to a camper or small group of campers depending on the
needs of the children and youth. He or she will accompany the
camper(s) to all of the daily activities and will stay overnight with
the children in the air-conditioned cabins. This is a unique
opportunity for students or professionals that work in the special
education field to experience (to a very small extent) what it is like
to live with a person with an autism spectrum disorder. Life long
friendships and professional connections often develop during this
experience and we feel confident that many will describe it as one of
the most valuable of their lives.
An Activity Facilitator
will plan and facilitate daily activities in his or her area and/or
areas of expertise (i.e. sensory, art, social development, campfire
songs, music activities, yoga, relaxation strategies, self-advocacy,
self-esteem) for the campers. To accommodate all campers, there will
be four to six, one-hour sessions per day.
The Photographer
will be in charge of taking and printing pictures of daily activities
using the camp's digital camera. He or she will also organize and
distribute the photos to each camper and staff member on the final day
of camp.
Medically Trained Professionals will
reside overnight to assist with any medical needs. These individuals
will be in charge of collecting and distributing prescription and
over-the-counter medications.
