Interested campers between the ages of eight and eighteen may apply.
When will this overnight camp take place?
All campers, ages eight through eighteen, will participate in a four
day, three night experience scheduled for Wednesday, July 28th through
Saturday, July 31st, 2010.
Where will Camp Encourage be held?
Camp Encourage will be held at Tall Oaks Conference Center, a beautiful camp facility forty-five minutes west of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Who should apply?
For the first two years of Camp Encourage and because we are starting
small for purposes of ensuring quality, we will be targeting
individuals on the autism spectrum that are independent with toileting,
dressing, and showering needs and are successful with a 2:1 child /
adult ratio (not presently exhibiting intensive behavioral or
functional needs that would require the constant support of 1:1
assistance).
How will the selection process work?
First to meet the needs of our immediate community, priority will be
given to all campers that reside in Missouri and Kansas. All Interest Forms from these two states with the required postmark date will be
placed in a lottery pool. Should the amount of campers interested
exceed the slots available, a waiting list will be started. If slots
remain open (which we do not anticipate), another lottery will take
place with interested campers from outside states.
How much does Camp Encourage cost?
The fee for participating in Camp Encourage is $800 for each camper,
ages eight through eighteen. This fee is very near the actual cost per
camper due to the amount of quality planning, specialized materials and
supports, cost of meals, expense of comfortable cabins, and
participation in tailored activities.
PLEASE DO NOT LET THE COST DETER YOU FROM APPLYING. All past campers that have requested financial support have received scholarship funding. In fact, twenty four of the thirty campers that attended in 2009 were provided with scholarship assistance. Annually, we work diligently to make this opportunity available to a variety of campers,
despite socioeconomic differences or difficulties.

When does the Camper Interest Form need to be submitted?
Completed Interest Forms received with a postmark date not later than April 1
will be considered within the first pool of applicants. Forms received
following this deadline will likely be placed on a waiting list unless
available slots remain.
