Introduction and News
A Brief Introduction
Camp Encourage offers a quality overnight camp opportunity involving relationship development, recreation, and relaxation and is specifically designed to meet the needs of children and youth with autism, Asperger syndrome, and related pervasive developmental disorders. Sensory supports, visual strategies, direct social instruction, and positive behavioral supports are a few of the many important elements that make Camp Encourage unique.  Traditional camp activities including horseback riding, fishing, swimming, participating in art activities, and singing by the campfire will be a few of the numerous activities available.   Camp Encourage provides an accepting, loving atmosphere and is well staffed with high quality, well trained counselors, activity facilitators, medical personnel, and behavior specialists.

In the summer of 2008, Camp Encourage launched its initial session, targeting youth ages eight through eighteen.  Our second year will focus on the same ages and will be a four day, three evening experience.  Our future hope, however, is to expand camp services to meet the needs of young children through adults.  We are eager to see what the future will bring.

We strongly believe in the power of peers, especially when hoping to enhance the social lives of children on the spectrum. Because of this, another important aspect of
Camp Encourage is the inclusion of peer models.

Camps For Kids Campaign Continues!
We were honored to be selected to participate in the 2009 Camps For Kids annual matching campaign.  If you are interested in doubling your financial gift, please click here to be directly taken to their website.  Please consider donating in the near future...the matching funds are depleting.

Scholarship funding was released this week to those attending in need of financial support.  We proudly are providing more than $12,000 to campers and peer models.

Campers, Peer Models, and Volunteers have been selected for our 2009 session and we are very much looking forward to another successful session!  If you are interested in a camper or peer slot, we regret that a lengthy waiting list is already established.  If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, we're still welcoming applications.  If we are able to gather additional volunteers, we may be able to offer slots to those on the waiting list.

2008: A HUGE Success!!
Our initial session of Camp Encourage was held during the last week of July and could not have been made feasible without the support of our amazing volunteers and community supporters. Click here to read feedback from parents, peer models, campers, and volunteers.

Our Mission is to encourage social growth, independence, and self-esteem in youth with autism spectrum disorders through a quality, overnight camp experience located in the greater Kansas City area.
